Uga Study Abroad Scholarships

UGA offers a range of scholarships to help students pursue their study abroad dreams. These scholarships are available to both undergraduate and graduate students. UGA’s Office of International Education and Development (OIED) provides a comprehensive list of the available scholarships. Some of the scholarships are listed below.

Gilman Scholarship Program

The Gilman Scholarship Program provides awards of up to $5,000 to undergraduate students of limited financial means. The award can be used to cover tuition, room and board, books, and other expenses. Students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and must be enrolled in a program that will last at least four weeks. Students must also demonstrate financial need.

Freeman-Asia Award

The Freeman-Asia Award is a need-based award that provides up to $7,000 for study abroad programs in Asia. The award is open to both undergraduate and graduate students, and is designed to support cultural understanding between the U.S. and Asia. To be eligible, students must demonstrate financial need and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Bridging Scholarship

The Bridging Scholarship is a need-based award that provides up to $4,000 to undergraduate students studying in Japan. The award is open to both U.S. citizens and permanent residents. To be eligible, students must demonstrate financial need and have a minimum 2.5 GPA. The award can be used for tuition, room and board, books, and other expenses.

Boren Awards

Boren Awards are merit-based scholarships that provide up to $20,000 for study abroad programs in Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. The award is designed to support students who are studying languages, cultures, and international relations in countries that are of strategic importance to the U.S. To be eligible, students must have a minimum 3.2 GPA.

Harrison Undergraduate Research Award

The Harrison Undergraduate Research Award provides up to $5,000 to undergraduate students pursuing research abroad. The award is open to both U.S. citizens and permanent residents, and is designed to support students who are researching topics related to global challenges. To be eligible, students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.

Office of International Education and Development Scholarships

The Office of International Education and Development provides a range of scholarships to support students who are studying abroad. These scholarships are open to both undergraduate and graduate students, and range from $1,000 to $5,000.
